Africa-Press – Mauritius. Accenture Mauritius organised an official ceremony, this evening, at the J&J Auditorium in Phoenix, to celebrate the company’s 4,000th employee milestone in Mauritius, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and other personalities.
The 20th anniversary of Accenture Mauritius was also celebrated on this occasion. In his address, Prime Minister Jugnauth commended the company for having achieved such an impressive milestone and highlighted that Mauritius is proud of having such a company as a flagship in the booming digital industry.
He underlined that when Government kicked-off the digital revolution in the early 2000s, Accenture was among the first outsourcing multinationals to set up operations in Mauritius.
The Prime Minister observed that, following an adventurous start-up phase, the ICT/BPO industry went on, two decades later, to become a major pillar of our economy with a Gross Domestic Product of 7.4% last year.
Government, he indicated, is currently working to bring other Tech giants to Mauritius and hopefully during the next two years, some 2,000 jobs will be created locally in ICT related fields including programming, customer support, cyber security, and data analytics.
The ICT sector, he pointed out, has been one of the few ones which have registered a positive growth rate during the past two years despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He commended Accenture Mauritius for adopting a strategy focussed on capacity building activities and human resources development.
Prime Minister Jugnauth underscored that the Accenture Academic Programme is a good example of how there can be cooperation between academia and corporate firms to address the problem of skills mismatch and create an enabling environment for businesses to grow and compete in global markets.
Furthermore, he emphasised that knowledge and technology will be key drivers of economic growth in the future and as our country advances further into the digital economy.
We look up to leaders like Accenture to speed up the transfer and adoption of frontier technologies and Government, he added, is committed to help businesses harness the potential of digital economy and acquire new capabilities and skills.
Before concluding, the Prime Minister reassured that Government will always lend an attentive ear to the voice of a partner who is committed to bring prosperity and success to our shores.
The Managing Director of Accenture Mauritius, Mr Charles Cartier, observed that the company has been growing for the past 20 years in Mauritius while being a trend setter in the business environment.
He also recalled that the ICT/BPO sector was among the few ones to experience growth following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and despite the two past lockdowns in Mauritius.
Mr Cartier expressed pride as the company reached the 4,000th employee milestone and emphasised that, as far as the gender equality policy of the company is concerned, 56% of the company’s employees to date are women.
He further announced that the company will soon be the first one to offer eight weeks of paternity leave to eventual new fathers, a measure which according to him will greatly improve work-life balance of employees.
As for the Managing Director, Accenture France Benelux, Mr Yanis Vadier, he stated that Mauritius remains a strategic location for French clients from various activity sectors. He also commended Accenture Mauritius for creating jobs for local youth as well as for its contribution in creating new local talents.
