Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, inaugurated, yesterday in Calebasses, the Human Service Trust (HST) Sanskritik Kendra, a Centre that will be dedicated to the promotion of arts and culture.

The Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah; the Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr Soodesh Satkam Callichurn; the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; the President of the HST, Mr Premchand Boojhawon, and other eminent personalities, were present.

In his address, Prime Minister Jugnauth commended the HST for the construction of the Sanskritik Kendra that will provide an important platform for artists and for the promotion of socio-cultural activities in the country.

He indicated that the HST, founded in 1967 by Swami Krishanand Saraswati, had a remarkable contribution in promoting Ayurveda and traditional medicines; ensuring the well-being of the elderly and vulnerable families; and preserving cultural heritage.

He recalled his visit to India for the ground-breaking ceremony of the World Health Organization Global Centre for Traditional Medicine during which the increasing importance of traditional medicines was highlighted.

Mauritius, he stated, will also avail of its centre of excellence for Ayurveda, AYUSH, with the support of the Government of India, at Côte d’Or. The Centre will provide for state-of-the-art traditional treatment and promote research in Ayurveda, he added.

The Prime Minister further spoke of the need to provide moral, emotional, and financial support to the elderly in view to better cater to their expectations.

The elders, he said, are more exposed to health problems, depression, and mental issues and are in constant need for care and affection. The HST has taken a laudable initiative by providing the elderly and the most vulnerable with shelter, support, and security, he underlined.

Likewise, ensuring the best interest of the population, especially by caring for, and by promoting the well-being and security of the older persons is one of the priorities of Government, remarked the Prime Minister.

With regard to the Sanskritik Kendra, Prime Minister Jugnauth indicated that it offers a large space for conducting socio-cultural activities and promote meditation, drama, music and dance among the youth and the population in general.

He also emphasised the importance of ensuring a conducive environment for the youth, especially those who are victims of alcohol and drug abuse, to tread on the right path, devote themselves to voluntary social works and become responsible citizens of tomorrow.

For his part, Mr Boojhawon indicated that the Centre demonstrates the commitment of the HST to promote arts and culture as well as to encourage the youth towards voluntary and social works.

The centre, he pointed out, will provide a platform for young talents to shine and will encourage everyone to join us in the efforts to preserve our rich cultural heritage.

He further reiterated the determination of the HST to give a helping hand to the Government for the well-being of the elderly and the promotion of unity and peace.
