Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of France to Mauritius, Mr. Frédéric Bontems, today, at the New Treasure Building, in Port-Louis.

In a statement, Mr Bontems indicated that this was his first time meeting with the Prime Minister since he is in post in Mauritius adding that it was fruitful and went remarkably well.

“We reviewed our excellent bilateral relationship and dwelt in greater depth on a number of concrete areas of cooperation such as what we can achieve together in the fight against drug trafficking,” he said. The French Ambassador further underscored that they shared their views about renewable energy projects, more specifically, water projects.

“I evoked the assistance that we hope to bring back to Mauritius very soon to support sectoral water policies both in Mauritius and Rodrigues, and I hope that we will be able to make some extremely important announcements in the coming weeks,” he added.

Mr Bontems shared that he is very pleased with the high standards of the great relationship between our two countries, which is based on an extremely strong cultural and political proximity.

“I hope to see it strengthened even further over the coming weeks,” the Ambassador stated. About the French Ambassador Mr Frédéric Bontems is a career diplomat previously in post in Paris. He has been the Ambassador to Ethiopia since 2016 and is also the French Special Envoy for the Sahel in Africa since 2020.

The French Ambassador has been Director of Development and Global Public Goods at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development from 2013 to 2016 and the Consul General of the Republic of France in Houston from 2011 to 2013.

Mr Bontems is a former student of the ‘Ecole Nationale d’Administration’ and a graduate of the ‘Institut d’Etudes Politiques’ of Paris. He equally holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Law from the Graphic University of Paris II.
