Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, had a bilateral meeting, today at the Ravenala Attitude Hotel in Balaclava, with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General (USG) for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr Li Junhua, in the context of the Preparatory Meeting of the 4th International Conference on SIDS for the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and South China Sea (AIS) Region.
The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, was also present.
In a statement, Mr Junhua highlighted that the meeting with the Prime Minister was cordial and was an opportunity to discuss a number of pressing issues which need to be addressed by the international community as far as SIDS are concerned.
Mr Junhua underlined the need to assist SIDS in addressing their vulnerabilities, through among others, better access to international financing or concessional lending. He further dwelt on the importance of advocating actions to help SIDS in their fight against climate change.
He expressed hope that, following the three-day Preparatory Meeting, AIS Members come out with a document with recommendations to be brought to next year’s International Conference on SIDS, where the action plan for the coming decade will be developed.
