This ceremony, the Prime Minister added, bears testimony of the ongoing infrastructural developmental projects implemented in the country including the construction of the Pont Fer Flyover and the Flyover at Dowlut roundabout, that were undertaken to provide better facilities and services to the citizens.
Moreover, he pointed out that the Flyover to be constructed at Quay D roundabout will provide a rapid link connection in the region and relieve many drivers and commuters as, per hour, nearly 6,000 vehicles use that road to access Port-Louis.
This project, Mr Jugnauth stressed, will enhance road safety for both drivers and pedestrians. On this score, he indicated that the project will also comprise a footbridge between Quay D roundabout and Mer Rouge roundabout to benefit the inhabitants of the surrounding areas.
The Prime Minister also announced that a similar project will be implemented at Terre Rouge roundabout to alleviate road traffic and provide better road infrastructure to commuters and in the future other such projects will be extended across the island.
Speaking of infrastructure and recent flooding across Mauritius, he underlined that Government is working on strategies to mitigate the effects of heavy rain and flood incidences.
The Flyover Project The project will last 18 months and is expected to be completed by April 2023. It will start from Port Louis Centre to the Port Area along Motorway M2, with a view to eliminate the Quay D roundabout and improve traffic flows.
The contract for the construction of the Flyover has been awarded to TRANSINVEST Construction Ltd on 08 October 2021 under a Design-Build/Turnkey Basis.
It will comprise a single carriageway Flyover across Motorway M2, and a traffic scheme with slips lanes on both sides of the Motorway to connect to the Port Area and existing roundabout along Military Road.
The Road Development Authority is undertaking the Quay D Flyover project to namely: segregate the main traffic along Motorway M2 and traffic accessing the adjoining regions; alleviate the traffic congestion along Motorway M2 and surrounding roads (Marine Road and Military B30 road); provide a better road interface through safer access corridor for logistics within the port area; decrease travel times and reduce vehicle operating costs; and boost economic development within Port Louis.
