The theme chosen for this PSEA’s edition was “Promoting an agile and responsive Public Service”.

On this occasion, the Mauritius Police Force bagged the first prize of the competition, followed by the Spine Unit of Victoria Hospital in second place, while Ebene State Secondary School Girls and the Planning Division of the Ministry of Housing and Land Use Planning both received the third prize.

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Mr Teeruthraj Hurdoyal, and other personalities were present at the award ceremony.

In his address, President Roopun highlighted that this Award ceremony is the right platform to showcase professionalism within Ministries and Governmental Agencies, while outlining innovative reforms which are being implemented.

He underscored that the current pandemic has in its wake brought compelling changes in the way service was delivered, while information and communication technology was propelled at the forefront and confirmed its efficiency.

President Roopun also expressed satisfaction as the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms has set the stage for a paradigm shift in service delivery which is increasingly driven by innovation and technology.

In addition, he underlined, Government has embarked in a Public Sector Transformation Strategy in a bid to continuously evolve and innovate. The President of the Republic further emphasised that public service officers, as architects of our national development, have been at the core of the transformation of Mauritius to a modern and prosperous country.

These officers have successfully implemented policy initiatives leading to our economic success story, he added. For his part, Minister Hurdoyal commended the 59 public organisations which participated in this 14th edition of the PSEA and whom he considers to be the torchbearers of excellence.

He pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with the Ukraine-Russia war has created a more challenging business environment, where the public service has to be more innovative and creative so as to cater for the welfare of the population.

As such, stated the Minister, there is a need to re-orient our public policies and strategies to overcome new challenges and the PSEA is an effective tool to improve the quality of service delivery and create new ways of doing Government business in order to facilitate socio-economic development and increase wealth for the betterment of the nation.

He also remarked that over the past years, the PSEA has succeeded in creating greater insight and interest about the importance of quality management as a strategic tool for enhancing productivity and competitiveness in the public sector.
