Public Service Minister committed to implement Policies to improve Health and Welfare of Public Officers

Africa-Press – Mauritius. At the free health screening programme for public officers at the SICOM Building 2, in Port Louis, this afternoon, the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, stated that specific measures necessary to improve the health and welfare of public officers will be formulated and implemented soon.

The annual one-day screening programme was organised by the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The Secretary for Public Service, Mr Koosiram Conhye, and other personalities were also present at the event. In his address, the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms recalled that maintaining a healthy population is the key priority of Government.

Accordingly, he spoke of the necessity for citizens, including Public Officers, to adopt a healthy lifestyle so as to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancers, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.

According to Dr Ramdhany, screening for early detection of NCDs, good nutrition and physical activities are critical factors to remain healthy. The importance of mental well-being was also underscored by the Minister.

He affirmed that the Ministry was looking into the possibility of providing psychological counselling and services in the workplace. He is of the view that this measure could assist in alleviating work-related stress and in enhancing the wellbeing of public officers.
