Africa-Press – Mauritius. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam revealed in the National Assembly that 31 advisers were employed at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) between 2015 and November 2024 under the former government. This group included 4 Special Advisers, 11 Senior Advisers, and 16 Advisers.

Responding to a question from MP Kavi Lukeeram, the head of government denounced what he described as a “carefully orchestrated scheme” aimed at boosting advisers’ incomes by appointing them to multiple boards of directors. In some cases, he added, the remuneration they received from these boards exceeded their original salaries.

Special Adviser Ramprakash Maunthrooa earned approximately Rs 23.1 million between 2015 and 2024, including Rs 15 million in board fees.

Special Adviser Nayen Koomar Ballah received around Rs 11 million between February 2023 and November 2024.

Senior Adviser Kreedeo Beekharry amassed a total of Rs 23.6 million, of which Rs 16 million came from various boards and committees.

Senior Adviser Sarah Rawat Currimjee earned approximately Rs 17.3 million between 2017 and 2024.

Ken Arian, who served as a Senior Adviser until September 2021, received Rs 15.1 million, including Rs 11.3 million in board honoraria.

The Prime Minister also noted that among the advisers was a specialist in “ojha”—a term referring to spiritual or traditional healing practices—who received a monthly salary of Rs 32,350.

He emphasized that his administration is committed to ending these past practices, which he alleges involved the allocation of public funds based on political or personal considerations rather than merit or necessity.
