Africa-Press – Mauritius. A reception to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Egypt’s National Day was held, today, at the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Egypt in Ebène. The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, and the Ambassador of Egypt, Dr Alya’a Borhan, and other eminent personalities were present.
President Roopun offered a toast to the good health of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr Abdel Fattah Al Sissi, while Dr Borhan toasted to the good health of the President of the Republic of Mauritius.
In her address, Dr Alya’a Borhan hailed the July 23 Revolution which, she observed, changed the reality of life in Egypt, brought about radical changes in all fields, and put the nation on the world’s political map. She highlighted that Egyptians are moving forward so as to attain a bright future full of job prospects and are working towards meeting the challenges of the modern world.
She recalled that Egypt is a culturally diverse country which makes the population Asian, Islamic, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, African, and Arabic.
Speaking about the bilateral relations between Egypt and Mauritius, Dr Borhan expressed her determination to take the relations to greater heights through the exchange of expertise and know-how and by increasing business opportunities between the two countries. She stated that Egyptian traders are keen to bring their processed food items and clothes into the Mauritian market and are looking forward to importing more Mauritian products. Furthermore, she pointed out that Egyptian investors are keen to invest in ecotourism, agro-processing, blue economy, and infrastructure.
The Ambassador of Egypt commended the efforts of the Mauritian Government in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic while adding that Mauritius is one of the safest countries in Africa in terms of active cases of COVID-19.
She also dwelt on the numerous projects that the Egyptian embassy will implement namely making Arabic, a language of poetry, literature, and calligraphy, accessible to all not only to the muslim community. She also encouraged more Mauritiann students to study in Egypt.
Dr Alya’a Borhan concluded by saying that Egypt extends its hands of friendship to Mauritius and expressed hope for better exchange in all fields notably trade, investment, trade, culture, and religion.
