Registration of Personalised Registration Mark for Motor Vehicle open as from 01 October 2021

Africa-PressMauritius. Online registration of Personalised Registration Mark for Motor Vehicles will be open as from 01 October 2021 on the website of the National Land Transport Authority (NLTA).

This announcement was made, this afternoon, by the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, during a press conference at the seat of the NLTA, in Cassis.

The Minister underlined that this initiative is the first of its kind in the Indian Ocean and will be accessible to all the inhabitants of the country.

He then proceeded to outline the main terms and conditions of registration as well as the types of Personalised Registration Marks available. The details are as follows:
Application
Application will be done on the website of the NLTA.

The applicant will receive an acknowledgement email after registration;
The NLTA will process the application and check availability of the Registration Mark before validating the application;
The NLTA will notify the applicant that his or her request has been approved.

The NLTA has a delay of 21 days to process and validate applications;
Relevant documents such as National Identity Card or Passport, Registration Book, Business Registration Number (for companies’ vehicles), and the acknowledgement email received after successful registration on the website will be required.

Conditions
The Road Traffic (Personalised Registration Mark for Motor Vehicle) Regulations 2021 shall have precedence over applications;
A maximum of six months is given to implement a Personalised Registration Mark after the reservation fee of Rs 5,000 is paid;
Payments shall be strictly done by credit or debit cards or cheque only to ensure transparency;
A service fee of 1.725% will be applicable for payment by cards above Rs 25,000.

Types of Personalised Registration Mark permitted
Three letters followed by any number between 1 and 9999 can be purchased for Rs 50,000;
Four letters followed by any number between 1 and 9999 can be purchased for Rs 75,000;
Five letters followed by any number between 1 and 9999 can be purchased for Rs 100,000;
Six letters followed by any number between 1 and 999 can be purchased for Rs 125,000;
Seven letters followed by any number between 1 and 99 can be purchased for Rs 150,000;
Eight letters followed by any number between 1 and 9 can be purchased at Rs 175, 000 and;
Any grouping of letters to a maximum of nine alphabets, for example ALI, ETHAN OR ALEXANDER can be purchased at Rs 200,000.

Other applicable fees
Fees for assignment of a Personalised Registration Mark to a donor motor vehicle or for the transfer of a Personalised Registration Mark to an heir against affidavit is Rs 10,000;
Fee for the transfer of a Personalised Registration Mark to a company in which the owner of the vehicle is a shareholder or director is Rs 50,000; and
Fee for the copy of entries from register is Rs 5,000.

Furthermore, Minister Ganoo underscored that the allocation of the registration marks will be strictly on a “first come, first serve basis” adding that the NLTA reserves the right not to entertain any application without prejudice if they find that the Registration Mark applied for is obscene, misleading, or may cause any social, religious or political disruption.

He highlighted that plates bearing acronyms of political parties or any religion will not be permitted and Government vehicles bearing matriculation plates of RM are not eligible for application.

Moreover, any parliamentary member wishing to make use of the Personalised Registration Mark on their official cars allocated by the State will also have to pay for it as any other citizen of the country.

On another note, the Minister announced that the Cabinet Decision of today has accepted to waive the Public Service Contract Licence Fee, also known as the PSVL Contract Bus (Tourist) Fee, for a period of one year.

As regards construction works being carried out by the Ministry of National Infrastructure and Community Development in Chamarel due to frequent landslides in the area, Minister Ganoo informed that there will be a road deviation in that area for a period of four months.

In this context, the Ministry of Land Transport and Light Rail will ensure that proper transport arrangements are made in terms of buses, among others, so that the inhabitants of the region do not face any difficulty to attend school or work, he added.

The Road Transport Commissioner of the NLTA, Dr Koshik Reesaul, also present at the conference, cautioned against fraudulent and unethical ways of personalising matriculation plates, such as writing AL 1 without the proper spacing of 15-20 mm between the letters and numbers so that it forms the name ALI, as it represents an infringement of the law and is punishable by the law through a fine of Rs 50,000 or an imprisonment of up to one year.

Dr Reesaul also underlined that to be able to use the new Personalised Registration Mark on a vehicle, the person must change his or her vehicle insurance policy, Motor Vehicle Licence, as well as his fitness certificate.
