Road Development: Temporary traffic diversion at Fropier Bridge Pamplemousses

Africa-Press – Mauritius. In the context of upgrading works of Fropier Bridge at Canto Nancy Pamplemousses, a temporary traffic diversion is being implemented at the junction of Port Louis-Central Flacq Road (A2) with Camp des Embrevades Road (B168), as from 09 June 2023 at 15 00hrs.

The representatives of the Road Development Authority (RDA); National Land Transport Authority; Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit; and Mauritius Police Force, carried out an onsite visit this morning, to take stock of the road diversion scheme in view to facilitate traffic flow and ease the lives of the inhabitants of the region.

In a statement after the visit, the Senior Manager at the RDA, Mr Deepak Dookayka elaborated on the technical aspects of the project which will comprise road closure of A2 and B169, temporary relocation of bus stops, major relocation of services, diversion of bus route on Camp des Embrevades and construction of a temporary traffic diversion near Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden to maintain traffic on A2 converted into a single lane.

The scope of works, he underlined, also includes, the construction of a reinforced concrete box culvert (6m wide by 5m deep) at the junction of Port Louis-Central Flacq Road (A2) with Camp des Embrevades Road (B168).

He indicated that during the working period, traffic from Port-Louis-Central Flacq (A2) will not have access to Camp des Embrevades Road, whereas traffic coming from Ilot will be diverted to Canto Nancy Road and then onto Shivala Road so as to get access to Port-Louis-Central Flacq Road (A2).

He informed that traffic coming from Port-Louis—Central Flacq (A2) will be diverted onto Shivala Road and subsequently to Canto Nancy Road in order to get access to Camp des Embrevades Road.

He further underlined that a new bridge will also be constructed along the existing Fropier Bridge adding that this project is being undertaken to counter the problem of flooding in the area.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, stated Mr Dookayka. As for the Constable Yumesh Rughu, he explained that police officers will be on site to facilitate traffic flow and to better guide road users on the diversion scheme.

A footpath will be open for pedestrians to ensure their safety, he underscored, while indicating that traffic coming from the East will be diverted to alternative roads in cases of huge traffic jam. He called on road users to be more cautions in the region and to follow the directions of the police officers.
