Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, effected a site visit, today, at the junction of Albion Approach Road B 105 and Albion Road B 78 near Notre Dame de la Mer church. The aim was to take stock of the upcoming construction works to be carried out in view of improving road safety in this accident-prone area.
In a statement, Minister Ganoo indicated that due to the high vehicular and pedestrian activity in this zone, as well as the increasing infrastructure development in the region of Albion, it was important to address the safety issues faced by residents of this locality at the junction.
The Minister emphasised that the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit thus came up with recommendations to provide the junction with traffic signals.
This, he said, will offer a better control of the traffic flow and allow pedestrians to safely cross the road. Works will also comprise a footpath so as to connect the nearby bus layby to the signalised junction.
Minister Ganoo further pointed out that the construction works, to the tune of more than Rs 5 million, will kickstart in the coming days and span over one and a half months.
