Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, effected a site visit, today, in Allée Tamarin in Richelieu.
The aim was to take stock of precautionary measures to be taken in this region so as to curb the number of accidents. In a statement, Minister Ganoo indicated that a high number of road users commute through the region daily, and they tend to speed, thereby at times leading to road accidents.
He observed that motor vehicles often do not slow down at pedestrian crossing, hence the need for traffic lights to ensure road safety. The Minister stated that experts and technical team of the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit will work on the possibility of putting in place raised safety platforms to encourage safe speed.
A number of initiatives, he said, are being undertaken to ensure the comfort and safety of the inhabitants. He also recalled that bus shelters have been constructed in the region to accommodate passengers in a convenient way and make travelling more pleasant.
