Africa-Press – Mauritius. Robotics and coding knowledge remains critical in helping young people to excel and prepare for future employment as automation and artificial intelligence continues to grow.

This was said by Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology, Mr Thulagano Segokgo at the robotics competition held at the Botswana Innovation Hub recently.

Mr Segokgo said the robotics competition theme; Developing robotics and coding skills for the 21st century economy, was in line with the realisation that future skills and jobs would be inadequate if elements of creativity, ingenuity and innovation were not introduced.

The robotics competition, hosted by the ministry for the first time, had attracted 250 students from around the country, with some coming from as far as Maun, Orapa and Kang.

“This year’s competition referred to as the first Lego league masterpiece season centred around the exploration of art, encouraging students to imagine and innovate novel methods for creating and communicating art globally,” Mr Segokgo said.

The competition had gathered budding engineers and programmers from across the country who captivated the audience with their remarkable creations and problem-solving abilities.

For their practice round, students demonstrated skill and strategic thinking as they maneuvered their robots through intricate mazes and obstacle courses. The robotics competition not only provided a platform for healthy competition, but also fostered collaboration and camaraderie among participants.

Students exchanged ideas, shared knowledge and formed lasting connections with like-minded individuals, creating a supportive community of young innovators.
