Salary Compensation 2023: Minister Callichurn chairs Tripartite Technical Meeting

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A Tripartite Technical Meeting pertaining to the salary compensation for the year 2023 was held, this afternoon, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr Soodesh Satkam Callichurn, in Port-louis.

The meeting was attended by several members of the Government, representatives of Business Mauritius and trade unionists. In a statement after the meeting, Minister Callichurn informed that Statistics Mauritius forecasted the inflation rate for year 2022 to stand at 10.7%.

He pointed out that during the meeting, the representatives of syndicates and the trade unionists were able to discuss various issues, including questions pertaining to the Consumer Price Index.

The Minister indicated that they had been requested to submit their quantum proposals which, he emphasised, would be studied by his Ministry by next Monday.

He also announced that a meeting would be chaired by the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, on 30 November 2022 to decide on the amount of the compensation.

The Minister recalled that the Government had made provision for an allowance of Rs 1,000 to eligible beneficiaries in Budget 2022-2023, and stressed that they would continue to benefit from it along with the salary compensation up to June 2023.

Mr Soodesh Callichurn further pledged that Government would make the necessary additional efforts to help those enterprises unable to pay the salary compensation to their employees.
