Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Devi Koonjoo-Shah, attended a Divali sales exhibition, at the Esplanade of the Emmanuel Anquetil Building in Port Louis, this morning, to take cognisance of the products manufactured by female entrepreneurs.
Organised by the National Women Entrepreneur Council (NWEC), the three-day sales fair will conclude on 10 November 2023. In a statement after the visit, Mrs Koonjoo-Shah recalled that since its inception in 1999, the NWEC, operating under the aegis of the Ministry, had been actively involved in organising sales fairs regularly throughout the year in different regions.
“Sales exhibitions,” she highlighted, “serve as a platform to increase the visibility of women entrepreneurs by enabling them to showcase and market their products.
” Mrs Koonjoo-Shah, moreover, reiterated Government’s commitment and priority in advancing the economic empowerment and autonomy of women.
In this vein, the Minister informed that sales fairs were an opportune time to meet women entrepreneurs and take into account their challenges and needs so as to tailor-made the training and facilities offered to them by the NWEC.
“Women,” Mrs Koonjoo-Shah pointed out, “contribute greatly in all the socioeconomic projects of the country.
” Speaking of the fair, the Gender Equality Minister shared that a wide range of textile and artisanal products, Indian sweets and lamps were on sale on the occasion of Divali.
