Africa-Press – Mauritius. The second edition of the Festival Kiltir ek Langaz Kreol Morisien on the theme “Nu Langaz-Nu Repiblik”, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, will be held from 03 to 17 December 2022.
As in previous years, Mauritian Creole culture will be highlighted through its cuisine as well as sporting and musical events. The announcement was made, this morning, by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo, during a press conference held at the seat of the Ministry of Tourism in Port Louis.
He was flanked by the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Georges Pierre Lesjongard; the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint; the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck; and the Director of the Tourism Authority, Mr Lindsay Morvan.
Deputy Prime Minister Obeegadoo highlighted that the Festival Kiltir ek Langaz Kreol Morisien was first organised in 2020 with the theme “ Nu viv ensam, nu rebodir ensam” in a very difficult economic and social context.
He observed that this year, all sectors of the economy have bounced back and the number of tourists have increased. Speaking about the Festival, he emphasised that it will showcase our Creole language and culture as regards the different components of the population, age groups, and cuisine, amongst others.
Mr Obeegadoo enumerated the various activities to be held during the Festival, including: Saturday 03 December: Regatta, Culinary Fair, Artisanal Exhibition, and a Concert at Mahebourg (10h-23h)
Wednesday 07 December: Symposium on the Kreol Language organised by the University of Mauritius and the Kreol Speaking Union (13h30-15h) Saturday 10 December: Sware Poezi at the Nelson Mandela Centre in La Tour Koenig (19h-22h)
Sunday 11 December: Four Bal Rann Zariko organised by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage in collaboration with Municipal and District Councils (13h-17h)
Saturday 17 December: Christmas Concert at the Flic en Flac Public Beach (19h-22h) For his part, Minister Teeluck underlined that the Festival not only celebrates our culture but is also a platform for artists.
He stated that in 2020, activities were organised in a virtual format adding that artists were paid some Rs 5 million. This year some 35 local artists will perform at Mahebourg and another 10 at Flic en Flac.
As regards the ‘Bal Rann Zariko’, he indicated that they will be organised simultaneously across the country from 13h to 17h on the 11 December 2022 at St Croix, Lake Point Hall in Curepipe, Plaza in Rose Hill, and Goodlands Farmers’ Centre.
As for Minister Toussaint, he dwelt on the activities to be held at Mahebourg Waterfront on 03 December, namely a Salon Culinaire which will be held as from 10h to showcase rare Mauritian dishes; a concert dedicated to the youth from 12h to 16h; and a Regatta as from 13h30.
A prize giving ceremony to reward the winners of the Regatta will be held at 16h and will be followed by a Grand Concert. He urged the population to be present in all the activities where they will be able to discover the Mauritian culture and language.
