Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Secretary General of the Commonwealth, The Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland QC, met the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, this afternoon, at the State House in Réduit.

In a statement, Baroness Patricia Scotland said that she had the opportunity to talk to the President about the outcome of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting hosted in Kigali last June.

She also lauded the wonderful role that Mauritius had played, including as regards the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub, which she emphasised, was contributing to the work done by Commonwealth on climate change.

Furthermore, the Secretary General stated that the need for Universal Vulnerability Index and for rallying contribution by each and every one to fix this climate crisis were brought forth during discussions.

She stressed that a total commitment was crucial to keep the level of temperature rise below 1.5 degrees, underlining that the message of the slogan “1.5 to Stay Alive” was a reality for all. In addition, Baroness Patricia Scotland thanked President Roopun and the Government of Mauritius for the active engagement in the Commonwealth.
