Signing of sponsorship agreements for the 22nd African Senior Athletics Championships

In the context of the 22nd African Senior Athletics Championship which will take place from 08 to 12 June 2022 in Mauritius, sponsorship agreements was signed at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex yesterday, in presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, and the President of the Organising Committee, Mr Giandev Moteea.

The sponsors are as follows: ENL Group (Gold Sponsor –Rs 1 million); Mauritius Duty Free Paradise (Silver Sponsor- Rs 500 000); IBL (Bronze Sponsor – Rs 250 000); Sugar Investment Trust (Bronze Sponsor- Rs 100 000); and State Investment Corporation (Bronze Sponsor – Rs 100 000).

In his address, Minister Toussaint underlined that the signing of the agreement comes at important time when Mauritius is gearing itself to welcome the 22nd African Senior Athletics Championship, a major sports event for athletes in the African region.

It also marks the strong partnership between public and private sector who are working hand in hand to make the event a success, he added. He lauded the efforts of the private partners who are providing assistance amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine and Russia War.

It is also a great opportunity for the youth to widen their networking with other international athletes and increase their potentials to compete in the Games, he indicated.

For his part, Mr Moteea highlighted that some twenty sponsors have come forward to support the Organising Committee for the Championship. He expressed his thanks for their support and financial assistance to the Games despite the difficult economic situation.

The signing of the sponsorship agreements, he said, reiterates the determination of the private sector to support the progress and empowerment of the youth along with the Government.
