Africa-Press – Mauritius. A site visit was carried out, today, in the southern region, by several Ministers with a view to seek solutions to transport and road infrastructure problems faced by inhabitants in this area.
The Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy; the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram; the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; and other personalities were present.
Several Technicians from the Ministry of National Infrastructure and Community Development, the Road Development Authority (RDA), the Land Drainage Authority, and the District Councils were present at the different sites in Rivière du Poste, St Aubin, and Rivière des Anguilles, among others.
In a statement, the Finance Minister stressed that Government is committed to enhance infrastructure so as to move forward the development of the country.
He explained that the site visit would help to identify pertinent road projects and prepare the scope, cost and time frame before projects’ initiation.
For his part, Minister Hurreeram underlined that the objective of the site visit was to see first-hand the various issues and come up with adequate remedial measures.
He thus spoke about projects to alleviate traffic congestion along a few road networks namely between Souillac and Nouvelle France. He stated that the RDA would undertake surveys so as to improve road infrastructure that would enable faster and safer commutes for the Southerners.
As for Minister Jagutpal, he indicated that the Government was taking into consideration the concerns of inhabitants of Surinam, Souillac, Saint Aubin, Rivière des Anguilles, Tyack, Britannia, La Flora, and Rivière du Poste regarding road infrastructure issues.
He said that short-term solutions as well as long-term undertakings would be identified for better traffic fluidity, connectivity, and safety in these localities and connecting road users to main road networks.
