Africa-Press – Mauritius. SME Mauritius organised, yesterday, a fashion show in Mont Ida, held by trainees who followed courses provided by the organisation, namely in decoration for events, sewing, aesthetics, crochet, jewellery and the manufacture of leather products.

The Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah, was present on the occasion. In his address, Minister Bholah highlighted that this event is an opportunity to showcase the knowledge acquired by the trainees and their creativity for the organisation of the fashion show.

He pointed out that entrepreneurship, which mainly relies on creativity, is one of the solutions to address several challenges that the world faces, such as unemployment, climate change, and food insecurity, among others.

The Minister pointed out that, for the year 2020, more than 1 700 persons have been trained in the four centres of SME Mauritius across the island. Government, he added, continues to set up several facilities to help and support entrepreneurs, and encourage citizens to engage in entrepreneurship.

According to him, the SME Registration Unit of his ministry and SME Mauritius will guide those wishing to start their business so as to build a new generation of entrepreneurs.

He also encouraged the trainees to transform their acquired knowledge into a business in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

For the fashion show, the hall was decorated by the trainees who followed courses in the manufacturing of decorative objects and flower bouquets. As for the models, their make-up was applied by trainees in beauty care, and they wore clothes made from fabrics already used. The trainees thus gave new life to the fabric that would end up in the waste by transforming them into new trendy and fashionable clothes.
