Africa-Press – Mauritius. On Tuesday 17 February 2026, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity held celebrations, at Jean Lebrun Municipal Hall in Cassis, to mark the 100th birthday of Mrs Anne Myriam Sobha, amidst family members and friends.

The Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, Mr Muhammad Reza Cassam Uteem; the Minister of Land Transport, Mr Mahomed Osman Cassam Mahomed; and other personalities were also present.

On that occasion, a cheque of Rs 26,203, a microwave, a kettle, a bouquet of flower, the Centenarian medal, and a Certificate were remitted to Mrs Sobha.

Moreover, the National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered a cheque of Rs 10,000 to the new Centenarian while the Senior Citizen Council presented her with gifts.

Beside the basic retirement pension, the Ministry provides the following monthly benefits to the Centenarian: carer’s allowance, social retirement benefit, income support allowance, contributory pension, and domiciliary visit by a doctor.

Mrs Anne Myriam Sobha was born on 17 February 2026 in Port Louis and raised in a family of four children. She is the only surviving member. Her father worked as a ship repairer and her mother was a homemaker.

Mrs Sobha attended school up to Standard III and worked as maid at different places until the age of 80. She was married to Mr Antoine Sobha, a brick layer, who passed away seven years ago. The couple had six children, five sons who are deceased, and one daughter. Mrs Sobha has 16 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.

The Centenarian attributes her longevity to her unwavering faith in God, and her daily prayers. Her kindness, positivity and good heart also contributed to her longevity.
