Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Darmarajen Nagalingum, effected a site visit, today, at Maryse Justin Stadium in Réduit, to take stock of the condition of the infrastructure, with particular attention to the running track, as well as the cleaning and painting works required to enhance the overall facility.

In a statement, Mr Nagalingum indicated that several site visits are planned to evaluate sports infrastructure across the island as part of the Ministry’s calendar of activities.

He also noted that the stadium is regularly used by a large number of athletes for training purposes while highlighting that the track is damaged and currently not suitable for athletic performance.

Mr Nagalingum reiterated that improving sports infrastructure remains a key priority. On that score, a re-evaluation of the scope of works, including cleaning and painting, will be carried out with a view to making the stadium more convivial.

The Minister also spoke of the support of Government, as well as potential sponsors, for the complete rehabilitation of the track, which will require significant financial investment. He recalled the recent renovation works carried out at the Mare d’Albert swimming pool and its reopening in November 2025.

Maryse Justin Stadium, located in Réduit, is a key facility for athletics in Mauritius. Over the years, it has hosted numerous training sessions and events, making it essential for the development of local sports. However, like many sports facilities, it requires regular maintenance and upgrades to meet the needs of athletes and ensure safety.
