Africa-Press – Mauritius. A Press Conference was held, this afternoon, at the Sepp Blatter Football House in Trianon, to announce the activation of the Strategic Collaboration in Mauritius between the Mauritius Football Association (MFA) and the Sport Lisboa e Benfica (SLB).
Representatives of the MFA and the SLB, who arrived in Mauritius this morning, were present at the conference. The Benfica Technical Director and Technical Coordinator who would remain in Mauritius for the implementation of the project, Mr Francisco Silveira Ramos, was introduced on the same occasion.
Mr Francisco Silveira Ramos is a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Pro Coach with many years of experience and has been part of many projects during his career. He was also the Technical Director of the Portuguese Football Federation and responsible for one of the last projects of Benfica in China.
The President of the MFA, Mr Samir Sobha, highlighted that the MFA was proud of welcoming this strategic partnership so as to enhance and develop the talent of young football players in Mauritius. He thanked the executive members of SLB for allowing this partnership to become a reality.
Through this agreement, he indicated, several opportunities will be made available namely: partner individual athletes and youth teams will be reviewed and assessed in Portugal by SLB; partner teams will have the opportunity to participate in SLB tournaments in Portugal; partner individual athletes will be allowed to register in the Benfica International Elite Program and; partner youth teams will be able to participate in Benfica Campus internships or other SLB proposed projects.
Moreover, Mr Sobha underscored that this partnership would transform the football environment in Mauritius through the setting up of the High-Performance Football Technical Centre which was in line with the new strategic lines and the commitment of the MFA.
He added that it would propel Mauritian Football to the next level which would help in the implementation of the professionalisation of football. The technical partnership
The MFA delegation was in Portugal, Lisbon, for the signature of a Partnership Agreement with SLB on 19 October 2021.
Under the Partnership Agreement, SLB is committed to provide its Partner with all sports and training methodologies and technical know-how advisory. For this purpose, SLB and the MFA have agreed to the full-time presence of a Benfica’s technical coordinator in the MFA for a period of eight years so as to adapt the methodologies and the experience of the SLB in the organisation of youth football in the Republic of Mauritius.
The same technical coordinator will also collaborate with the Partner in the implementation and development of the national coach training program among the members of the MFA.
The SLB delegation actually in Mauritius is composed of S. L Benfica Network Operations Coordinator, Global Expansion, Mr. Miguel Reis; the Innovation, Development and Project Management, Youth Football, Mr. Davide Gomes; and the Benfica Technical Director assigned to the Benfica/MFA Technical Partnership, Mr. Francisco Silveira Ramos.
