Africa-Press – Mauritius. The new branch of the Development Bank of Mauritius Ltd (DBM) was inaugurated, this afternoon, in Rivière des Anguilles by the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy. This seventh branch will be operational as from 22 September 2023.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Muhammad Ismaël Rawoo; the Chairperson of the DBM, Dr Jairajsing Luchoo; and other personalities were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

In his address, Minister Padayachy highlighted that this event marks a new step in Government’s strategy to enable citizens to realise their projects by bringing services closer to the community.

He observed that the DBM symbolises progress for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), including planters and breeders, by providing assistance to enhance their production capacity.

Dr Padayachy remarked that SMEs play a critical role in the socio-economic development of the country and, as such, every means is put at their disposal through the DBM, amongst others, so that they flourish and expand.

The Finance Minister, thus, urged the inhabitants of the region to avail all the facilities offered by the DBM and the Government so as to further progress in their endeavours.

Furthermore, Minister Padayachy recalled that loan schemes, including COVID-19 SME Interest Free Loan and COVID-19 Special Support Scheme, have been extended until June 2024.

Leasing facilities to enterprises having a turnover of up to Rs 250 million have also been maintained, he added. For his part, Minister Jagutpal underlined DBM’s contribution and support to several citizens to encourage them to successfully realise their projects.

He also reminded that this new branch will no doubt be a blessing for the inhabitants of the region. As for Dr Luchoo, he pointed out that the opening of this branch demonstrates the DBM’s commitment to help members of the public and SMEs implement and achieve their projects.

He also dwelt on the important role played by the DBM following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, and provided details regarding several schemes proposed by the company.
