Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, met with the Mauritian Sprinter, Mr Noa Bibi, this afternoon, at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Côte d’Or.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the way forward with regards to the provision of assistance from the authorities to support the future sports endeavours of Mr Bibi.

The meeting also enabled the Minister to congratulate the athlete for his exceptional performances at the 100m and 200m final race at the Championships of France Espoirs.

It is recalled that the Mauritian Sprinter, Mr Noa Bibi, set a time of 19.89 seconds for the 200m final race at the Championships of France Espoirs on 10 July 2022, thereby becoming the first Mauritian athlete to run under 20 seconds for the 200m race.

In a statement following the meeting, the Minister highlighted the outstanding performance of Mr Bibi and the contribution of his Coach, Mr George Vieillesse, as well the whole Federation for this feat at the Championships.

Furthermore, Mr Toussaint indicated that the sports career of Mr Noa Bibi on the medium and long-terms as well as his professional career were discussed during the meeting.

“We want Mr Bibi to have a secured professional career along with his sports career as we do not want to see him unemployed after a few years of glory and medals,” he pointed out.

The Minister informed that Mr Bibi was advised to think about the fields in which he wants to pursue his professional career so that at the end of his sports career, he would have secured stable job to financially support himself.
“The Ministry along with stakeholders will liaise with the different educational and vocational institutions present in Mauritius so that Mr Bibi can continue with his sports career and, at the same time, pursue his studies,” he stated.
For his part, Coach Vieillesse indicated that the Mauritius Athletics Federation is currently working on measures to allow him accompany the Mauritian Sprinter to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and thus give Mr Bibi the best possible support for his progression.
