Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ambassador and Representative of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), Mr Léonard Emile Ognimba, paid a courtesy call, today, on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit.

In a statement following the meeting, Ambassador Ognimba highlighted that the meeting with President Roopun was cordial and aimed at presenting his courtesies to the Mauritian authorities since he has recently been appointed as Representative of the OIF for the Indian Ocean Region.

He observed that it is an honour for him to meet the President of the Republic of Mauritius and to discuss of the possible avenues of cooperation between Mauritius and the OIF.

Ambassador Ognimba further indicated the partnership between Mauritius and the OIF can cover different areas such as peace, democracy, the rule of law and culture.

Focus will also be on the challenges faced by Small Island Developing States, such as sustainable tourism, climate change, and the blue economy, he added.

A career diplomat, Ambassador Ognimba has more than forty years’ experience in international political affairs, mainly focused on the peaceful resolution of conflicts on the African continent.

For the past five years, he has served the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States as Under-Secretary General, in charge of Political Affairs and Human Development.
