Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Jugnauth, participated, this Wednesday, September 22, 2022, in the Association of Small Island States (AOSIS) Leaders’ Breakfast.

This meeting was held in New York on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly. This working session was chaired by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Mr.

Gaston Browne. The discussions focused mainly on the development of a Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) responding to the specificities of the small island states members of AOSIS.

This index should facilitate actions to respond to emerging challenges facing small island states, such as the effects of climate change or health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

A high-level committee, co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and the Prime Minister of Norway Ms. Erna Solberg, has considered several recommendations to this effect.

An interim report was submitted to AOSIS member countries in August this year. This report was discussed during the Leaders’ Breakfast and a final document should be validated by the end of the year.

During this AOSIS working session, the Prime Minister had the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mrs. Jacinda Ardern, with the President of Suriname, Mr. Chandrika Parasad Santokhi and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.
