Africa-Press – Mauritius. The High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to Mauritius, Col (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, presented his credentials, today, to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House in Réduit.
In a statement, Rtd Col Mwesigye, said that discussions with the President focused on further strengthening bilateral and political relationships as well as enhance trade and businesses between the two countries. The need to maintain and develop the existing bridge between Mauritius and Uganda was also highlighted by the High Commissioner.
Rtd Col Mwesigye expressed his gratitude to the Government of Mauritius for offering scholarships to students of Uganda adding that he will further collaboration in the education sector during his three and a half year tenure.
He also indicated that Uganda looks forward to benchmark on several sectors for the benefits of both countries’ people namely tourism, furniture, and the textile industry.
Rtd Col Fred Mwesigye is a Ugandan politician, Former legislator Nyabushozi county, and former member of the army. He was the Member of Parliament for Nyabushozi County, Kiruhura District from 2016 to 2021 and former commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces. He was also among the 27 liberators in the 1981 Ugandan Bush War.
