Upcoming World Walking Day 2022: Sports Minister encourages participation of the population

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation in collaboration with the Mauritius Sports Council, the National Youth Council, and the Mauritius Recreation Council is organising walking activities across 21 constituencies of Mauritius including Rodrigues to mark World Walking Day 2022 on 02 October 2022, and sensitise the population to be physically active.

In this context, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint, had a meeting with local authorities, Youth and Sports Officers of his Ministry and other stakeholders, today, at the Cote-d’Or National Sports Complex.

The Minister encouraged all stakeholders to raise awareness for the participation of the ppopulation for World Walking Day. He pointed out that the walking event is open to individuals of all age groups.

The registration will begin at 09 00 hrs and the walking activity will start as from 10 00 hrs, he said. Minister Toussaint called upon everyone to come together to make this activity a success.

The Mauritius Sports Council would also organise the World Walking Week from 26 to 30 September 2022, in all pre-primary, primary, secondary, private, and Special Education Needs schools, as well as in tertiary education institutions, during school hours within school compound.
