US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources pays courtesy call on President Roopun

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The United States (US) Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Mr Richard Rahul Verma, paid a courtesy call, on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, this morning, at the State House in Réduit.

In a statement, Mr Verma highlighted that his meeting with the President was very cordial and discussions focused on issues that interconnect the United States and Mauritius, including: economic relationship, security partnership and people-to-people ties.

Furthermore, he underlined that this relationship is built upon shared values and democratic principles. “The two countries have done so much together that the future is very bright between us,” the US Deputy Secretary stated.

Mr Verma further highlighted that the discussions also pertained to the construction of a brand-new US Embassy in Moka that will be launched today. “The project will cost around three hundred million US Dollars spanning over a duration of three years and shows the commitment that the US has towards the people of Mauritius,” he said.

About the US Deputy Secretary Mr Richard Rahul Verma holds the position of the US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources since 05 April 2023.

Previously he served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs from the years 2009 to 2011, and as the US Ambassador to India from 2014 to 2017. He also occupied the position of Chief Legal Officer and Head of Global Public Policy at Mastercard from the years 2020 to 2023.
