Africa-Press – Mauritius. Regional consultations, in line with Vision 2050, kicked-off yesterday at Petit Raffray. This event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders of the northern region namely representatives of District and Village Councils, economic operators, planters and fishermen to address priorities in shaping Mauritius’ long-term development.

The Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun; the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad; the Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Dr Kaviraj Sukon; and the Member of Parliament, Mr Rameshwar Etwareea, participated in the event, highlighting the commitment to effectively define Vision 2050.

In her address Minister Jeetun pointed out that the consultations serve as an important platform for interactive dialogue among government officials, industry leaders and community representatives to exchange ideas for shaping an inclusive and sustainable Mauritius.

Dr Jeetun reaffirmed that Vision 2050 represents Government’s engagement to transforming the country, emphasising that its successful implementation will require concerted efforts from both public and private sectors.

She indicated that similar consultations will be held across all District and Municipal Councils as well as through thematic sessions to ensure broad national participation in the Vision 2050 agenda.

Discussions focused on assessing the current socio-economic situation; defining the Mauritius envisaged for 2050; identifying key economic pillars and investment priorities; and examining cross-cutting themes such as education, energy, food security, climate change, public transport and the fight against drug abuse.
