Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, attended the UNESCO-India Africa (UIA) Hackathon 2022, which was organised in partnership with India and UNESCO, routed through the National Commissions and the Permanent Delegations to UNESCO of respective nations, on 22 to 25 November 2022 at Gautam Buddha University in India.
The 36-hour online hackathon brought together computer programmers and offered unique opportunities to all participating countries and India to forward their economic development through collaboration in science and technology, exchange of thoughtful leadership and involving varied skilled individuals to develop cross country bonds.
It was an opportunity for participants to learn from each other’s strength and get acquainted with each other’s culture, values and work ethics. The objectives of the event were to promote collaboration, innovation, as well as to ideate and explore startups potential jointly.
Furthermore, the event sought to offer solution for problems relevant to all participating nations and strengthen cultural ties. A delegation of twenty students of different Higher Education Institutions also participated in the Hackathon for the event is in line with the vision of the Government to develop a Science and Technology Strategy.
It was thus a capacity building platform for both academics and students on STEM that will promote startups for sustainable solutions to local problems and multidisciplinary approach to problem solving of global issues.
