Africa-Press – Mauritius. West Ham United have dismissed head coach Graham Potter after a poor run of results in the Premier League and appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as his successor.
Potter, 50, was sacked on Saturday morning, with the club citing underwhelming performances stretching back to the latter part of last season and the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
In a statement, the Hammers said:
“A change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible. Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of this season have not matched expectations.”
Potter, speaking via the League Managers Association, expressed his disappointment:
“I am incredibly disappointed to be leaving West Ham, particularly without being able to achieve what we set out to achieve at the start of our journey in east London.
” I do, however, fully acknowledge that the results have just not been good enough up to now.”
The club has moved swiftly to appoint former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who has signed a three-year contract.
“The 51-year-old Portuguese coach, dismissed by Forest earlier this month despite guiding them to a seventh-place finish last season—their best since 1994/95—will take charge of his first game on Monday away at Everton.
West Ham fans will now hope Nuno can spark a turnaround as the club looks to climb the Premier League table.
