Williams Eager for Athletic Bilbao's Champions League Comeback

Africa-Press – Mauritius. Athletic Bilbao forward Iñaki Williams has shared his excitement after the UEFA Champions League group stage draw, highlighting what the return to Europe’s biggest stage means for both the squad and the fans.

The Basque club will host some of Europe’s elite at San Mamés this season, and Williams believes it is an opportunity to savour.

“The best teams in Europe are going to play at the San Mamés. So there is a reason for Athletic fans to be excited,” the Ghana international said. “We have some very nice away trips too. We will try to take them head-on, like we have always done in recent years. We will see how far we can go.”

Athletic are back in the competition after a long absence, and for many of the current squad, it will be a completely new experience.

“To be honest, it’s been a few years since we last heard the anthem. With the exception of Yuri, the rest have never played in the UEFA Champions League. We can’t wait to hear it and for our fans to get excited about it,” Williams added.

The striker, who has long been the heartbeat of Athletic’s attack, sees this campaign as both a challenge and a celebration, as San Mamés prepares to welcome back Champions League nights under the lights.
