Winners of Mauritius Finance National Secondary School Video Competition announced

Africa-Press – Mauritius. The winning team of the Mauritius Finance National Secondary School Video Competition, namely the Forest-Side SSS (Girls) team, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 125,000, during a prize giving ceremony held in the presence of the Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, on 22 September 2023, at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ebène.

The Islamic Cultural College (Vallée des Prêtres) team was declared the first runner-up of the competition, and received a cash prize of Rs 75,000. Finally, the two ex aequo second runner-up winners, the D. A. V College team and the Sir Abdool Raman Osman State College team, were awarded Rs 50,000, each.

In her address, VPM Dookun-Luchoomun lauded the initiative of Mauritius Finance in providing young learners with the opportunity to become familiar with the world of finance, develop greater and fresher insights about the finance sector, and engage in activities that complement their academic and personal development.

According to Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun, the competition offered the participants a platform wherein they were able to acquire essential soft skills such as creative and critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills as well as team spirit.

“This,” she added, “will contribute to engaged, confident and responsible learners as well as to the emergence of well-rounded personality development.
Furthermore, the Education Minister underlined the crucial importance of education in being the heart of change, transformation and innovation, and recognised that an education system should have the ability to empower and nurture the capacities of students to enable them to strive in the current challenging environment.

Mauritius Finance National School Competition The competition targeted Grade 12 students of all public, private and fee-paying secondary schools. The teams were required to make a video of a maximum length of five minutes on the theme ‘Employment in the financial services: Opportunities and Challenges for the youth’.

This first edition of the competition saw the participation of 17 teams consisting of five students each. The competition is yet another initiative of Mauritius Finance to promote skills development in the financial services sector.

The Mauritius Finance National Secondary School Video Competition sought to encourage secondary school students to introduce young people of their age to this sector with high growth potential.

The theme of this first edition aimed at allowing young people to familiarise themselves with the multiple niches employment, particularly in fund administration and accounting, anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), and trades specialised in the banking sector
