Africa-Press – Mauritius. A workshop focusing on facilitating access to external markets for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), organised by SME Mauritius Ltd to mark the International Day of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, was launched, this morning, in Coromandel.
The workshop also saw the participation of DHL Express Mauritius, which endeavours to collaborate with local SMEs in regards to reducing their logistics burden.
In his address on the occasion, the Chief Executive Officer of SME Mauritius Ltd, Mr Ravin Rampersad, underlined the key role played by SMEs in advancing the economic development of the country with a contribution of about 40% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
“SMEs contribute significantly by creating wealth, employment and increasing social progress,” emphasised the CEO.
He remarked that despite facing challenges due to their small sizes and being vulnerable in terms of resources, SMEs were willing to take risks that big companies did not want to.
On that score, Mr Ravin Rampersad reaffirmed the resolve of SME Mauritius Ltd to help SMEs to increase their competitivity, improve their resilience and continue to support them on all fronts.
He recalled that SME Mauritius Ltd had a close proximity with its registered enterprises and provided them with continuous training to enhance their competencies.
Furthermore, the CEO encouraged them to avail of the various support measures and schemes catered for them, while pointing out that over the last three years, around 2,900 SMEs had benefited from various grants.
