Africa-Press – Mauritius. A workshop focusing on Professional Learning Community for primary educators, which is being held at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Côte d’Or, kickstarted this morning in presence of the Vice-Prime Minister (VPM), Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun.
In her address to the participants, VPM Dookun-Luchoomun underlined that the workshop is a key platform to help them in their role of primary educators to improve their performance to, in turn, improve those of their students.
She emphasised that school remains the safest place for children to acquire knowledge and the most important actors in this process are educators. The Education Minister remarked that the roles of educators and all actors involved in the education sector, have considerably changed over the years as the world and the society keep evolving.
They are all confronted with new types of students, different societal norms and challenges, and discipline issues, she pointed out. As educators, added Mrs Dookun-Luchoomun, you have to strive to ensure the wholesome development of your students, and act as a guide to inculcate them with lifelong learning, life skills and values, and in so doing, do your utmost best to live up to your own expectations, those of students and parents.
Besides, the VPM encouraged all the primary educators to believe in their potential and capabilities to fulfil their roles as educators, adding that the Professional Learning Community essentially seeks to promote the sharing of knowledge, views, experience among their peers so that they build a strong network.
This connection, she emphasised, will allow for the exchange of class practices, pedagogies and methodologies that contribute to continuously upgrade their knowhow.
On that score, the VPM announced that two half days will be given to educators and Heads of Schools Sessions, each school term, so that they can meet and discuss issues pertaining to teaching, learning and other aspects related to schools, in line with the Ministry’s endeavour to support educators in their tasks.
Moreover, the Education Minister appealed to the participants to continue to work as a team in their respective school with their other colleagues, to ensure that every child succeeds in life.
