Africa-Press – Mauritius. The Director of the Medical Unit at the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity, Dr Shiv Seegobin, conducted a training session for Social Security Medical Practitioners, today, at the Municipal City Council of Port Louis.
In his address, Dr Seegobin highlighted the need to refine and improve medical services and reinforce home care support for the elderly and disabled population. He thus called upon healthcare professionals to focus on Non-Communicable Diseases and assess their impact on individuals’ overall well-being.
Moreover, Dr Seegobin spoke about the National Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) Strategic and Action Plan 2022-2026, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity, and other key stakeholders.
He seized this opportunity to remind that this initiative, launched by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, addresses the challenges posed by population aging and requires a substantial enhancement in the healthcare system.
The ICOPE Guidelines, he added, aim to foster a comprehensive, person-centred, and proactive approach to healthcare, aligned with the goal of improving services for the elderly and disabled population in Mauritius.
