World Humanitarian Day 2022: Minister Ganoo launches video clip

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A video clip, highlighting the measures taken by Government to protect all citizens of the country such as in the case of natural disasters, was launched, this afternoon in Port Louis, in the context of the World Humanitarian Day 2022.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Mr Alan Ganoo, was present. The initiative was undertaken by the Human Rights Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.

In his address, Minister Ganoo underlined that in order to mark the World Humanitarian Day 2022, the Human Rights Division of his Ministry has produced an informative video clip to depict the assistance provided by Government to the people in case of natural disasters, including to the most vulnerable members of the society such as children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

The Minister emphasised that in line with the theme chosen by the United Nations for this year, which is “It takes a village”, the video calls for the population to mobilise as one community to collaborate with governmental bodies in order to provide assistance and support to people in distress.

Mr Alan Ganoo further recalled that the World Humanitarian Day is observed every year on 19 August to show collective gratitude and appreciation to all humanitarian workers who provide help and support to people affected by crisis, such as natural disasters and recently, the COVID-19 pandemic.

On that score, he extended his appreciation to the large number of volunteers who provided support to people in need during the lockdown, and underpinned the dedication and self-sacrifice of these unsung heroes namely doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters and social workers and so many other workers in various fields, who helped the country to move forward.

”I hope that the video clip effectively informs of measures adopted and acts as an inspiration for people of all age groups, particularly the young to promote and engage in the noble cause of humanitarian work”, added the Minister.
