World Humanitarian Day 2023 marked with the launching of video clip, online quiz and blood donation activity

Africa-Press – Mauritius. A video clip on humanitarian works along with an online quiz on international humanitarian law, initiatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, were launched this morning to mark the World Humanitarian Day 2023, at the seat of the Human Rights Division in Port-Louis.

The Permanent Secretary, Human Rights Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mrs Zahira Bibi Auladin Auckburally, representatives of various Ministries and members of the International Law Committee, were present at the event.

On the occasion the message of the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. Alan Ganoo, was delivered by Permanent Secretary, Mrs Zahira Bibi Auladin Auckburally.

It is to be recalled that the World Humanitarian Day , observed each year on 19 August, aims at honoring humanitarian workers who provide help and support to the vulnerable, minorities, children, elderly, persons with disabilities and others affected by crisis and natural catastrophes.

Permanent Secretary Auckburally underpinned the spirit of solidarity and displayed willingness of the citizens of Mauritius as well as the help and support of the Government through the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Command Centre, to assist their fellow countrymen and women in the aftermath of natural calamities.

Mrs Zahira Bibi Auladin Auckburally also expressed the Foreign Affairs Minister’s gratitude to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Centre, the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services and the Mauritius Police Force, for their daily efforts to ensure the safety of the population and for working towards the prevention and mitigation of natural disasters and other catastrophes.

Launching of blood donation activity Following the ceremony, a blood donation activity was also launched by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Auladin Auckburally, in presence of the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Mr. Mamode Issop Nujuraully, at the Municipal City Council of Port Louis.

In the message of Minister Alan Ganoo, delivered by Mrs Auladin Auckburally, the theme adopted by the United Nations for this year’s commemoration , “No Matter What”, which highlights the persevering spirit in upholding the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence, was underlined.

The humanitarian work carried out by Doctors and medical support staff and the constant need for pints of blood to treat patients in in Mauritius, were also emphasised in the Minister’s message.

Besides, in his message, Mr. Alan Ganoo made an appeal to the population to remain guided by the values and principles of humanity and support our peers, by contributing to saving lives through donating their blood. Launching of video clip

In line with the theme chosen by the United Nations for this year, which is ‘No Matter What’, the video clip being launched honors humanitarians who did not falter before the increasing challenges and have been venturing into disaster-stricken regions to protect and provide support to victims and to the needy.

The video clip depicts the very essence and purpose of humanitarian works which is to provide aid to people in situation of crisis and to advocates for the safety and security of aid workers.

Launching the Online Quiz The online quiz aims to promote awareness and understanding of International Humanitarian Law, which is a subject that remains unknown to many. The Online Quiz is an innovative and fun way of disseminating knowledge on International Humanitarian Law.

The Online Quiz will be accessible to everyone, at any point of time, online through the website of the Human Rights Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.
