
Africa-Press – Mauritius. A total of 140 Postal Officers were remitted with certificates, yesterday at Caudan Arts Centre, after having successfully completed a training course on customer care service and supervisory skills at the Civil Service college, Mauritius.
On that occasion, a First Day Cover was also launched. These activities are being organised to commemorate World Post Day 2023, celebrated annually on 09 October.
The aim is to bring awareness to the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development. The theme for 2023 is “Together for Trust”.
The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; the Chairman of Mauritius Post Ltd (MPL), Mr Ranna Swamber; the Chief Executive Officer of the MPL, Mr Vijaye Ramchurn; and other personalities were present. In his address, Minister Balgobin recalled that the World Postal Day was declared by the Universal Postal Union in 1969.
It serves as a means to sensitise the citizens on the crucial role post offices play in fostering cohesive, inclusive and connected communities as well as value the work of the Postal Officers which consists in ensuring that letters, parcels and money reach to their destination in a timely manner, he underlined.
The Minister lauded the staff of the MPL for their hard work and dedicated service over the years. He emphasised the necessity for the MPL to revamp, renovate and improve its postal services so as to remain competitive and keep pace with the new means of communication.
Furthermore, he encouraged the MPL to adopt latest technologies and become a full-fledged digitalised organisation. To this end, he indicated that an infrastructure has been acquired to better implement the e-commerce unit while highlighting that Government fully supports the MPL in its digitalisation and modernisation process.
Speaking about the importance of training, Minister Balgobin stressed the need to continuously train staff at all levels so that they are able to deliver more efficiently.
He pointed out that Government is seeking international collaboration to ensure advanced training and bring expertise to the country adding that provision of Rs 3 million has been made for the financial year 2023-2024 for the training of the MPL staff.
As for Mr Swamber, he said that the MPL will continue to enhance its services to ensure customer satisfaction by adopting latest technologies and providing continuous training to the staff.
