Storm Ana: INGD sends 40 tons of aid to Mozambican refugees in Malawi

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) yesterday sent 40 tons of mixed food products to the more than 2,500 Mozambicans in distress in Malawi, having taken refuge there from Tropical Storm Ana.

The products dispatched by the INGD include food, clothing and hygiene materials, and are expected to cover at a minimum the month’s-worth of needs until the Mozambicans concerned return home.

INGD took the step after learning of the humanitarian drama in Malawi through the press.

The INGD says that it will now evaluate the habitual residences of those displaced to Malawi to see whether or not the families need to be resettled.

In addition to the victims of Tropical Storm Ana, the institution confirmed that more than 3,000 people are cut off by water in the town of Madubula, in Matutuine, Maputo province, following the flooding of the Maputo river.
