Africa-Press – Mozambique. A head-on collision between two trains at Matola-Gare injured nine people, Ports and Railways of Mozambique has announced in a statement.

All the injured are out of danger, except for one passenger who is still receiving medical care.

Preliminary data indicate that the accident resulted from the failure of the positioning of the needle rails or switches. A needle diversion or switch is a railroad device that allows trains to switch from one track to another one. The switching needles are the track’s structure used to divert the trains’ wheels from a track to another one.

Meanwhile, the CFM say that a commission has already been created to investigate the causes of the accident.

Regarding the circulation of trains, CFM says it has been re-established.
