Mozambique’s corruption watchdog, the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) has opened an investigation into the school textbook production process, to establish the real causes and circumstances which gave rise to errors recently found in the Grade 6 Social Sciences textbook.
Information in possession of ‘Noticias’ indicates that another major objective of the investigation is to verify whether there was corruption in the procedures that led to the production of the manual.
Should evidence of corruption be found, a criminal case will be opened to hold the offenders accountable.
According to the Noticias source, the GCCC intends the work underway to ascertain the process for selecting the companies involved in contracting, acquisition, import, review and distribution of the textbooks.
