Africa-Press – Mozambique. At least 50 islamist terrorists on Wednesday attacked the village of Chinda, about 50 kilometres from the town of Mocimboa da Praia, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.
Local sources, cited in Friday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique”, said the attacks occurred at about 19.00, but the raiders were unable to do much damage because they were driven back by Rwandan troops. The village is about two kilometres from a position of the Rwandan army.
The terrorists destroyed several houses, and a vehicle, and looted foodstuffs from the villagers.
“Life was beginning. There was a car in the village and a flour mill, and people were starting to clean and to harvest their cashew trees. There was security from the Rwandan forces”, said the paper’s sources.
Some of the villagers fled to the locality of Oasse, and to other areas regarded as safe.
Last week, near Oasse, an unspecified number of people were kidnapped by a group of armed men, thought to be the same as the group that attacked Chinda on Wednesday.
