Africa-Press – Mozambique. The President of the Republic on Tuesday dismissed the Secretary of State forf Manica province, Stefan Dick Kassotche Mphiri, who had been appointed to the position in January this year.
The reasons for Stefan Dick Kassotche Mphiri,’removal from the position, which he held for 10 months, are not given in the statement sent this Tuesday to “O País” by the Presidency of the Republic.
However, it is known that the dismissal comes only days after his controversial public statements on premature marriages.
The statements were made during an event that debated the issue of girls’ retention at school, in the district of Gondola, in Manica, where girls, community and religious leaders, parents and guardians participated.
Dick called, in his statements, for a reflection on the Law to Prevent and Combat Premature Unions, and suggested that the involvement of minors in premature unions be legitimized.
“There are 10-year-old children who have the body of a 23-year-old mother […]”, said Dick Kassotche and, then, asked: “When Mary became pregnant with Jesus, how old was she?”.
The situation caused outrage and perplexity in some sectors of society, especially civil society, which mobilised to demand his dismissal.
