Africa-Press – Mozambique. Strong winds in the province and city of Maputo this weekend damaged two of the tents set up for the ‘hidden debts’ trial, but will not compromise ongoing court sessions in the trial of 19 defendants accused of being involved in Mozambique’s biggest-ever corruption scandal.
The tents destroyed are the waiting and press tents. The waiting tent, for defendants about to appear in the [main] court session tent, was completely destroyed, while the press tent, where close to 30 journalists follow the trial on a giant screen, was partially damaged.
In a press release shared with the media on Sunday, the Supreme Court said that the main tent had not been affected. “Work is underway to restore the affected tents and everything is guaranteed for the normal course of the session,” the press release emphasised.
This Monday saw the start of the second week of the trial, with the hearing of Armando Ndambi Guebuza, the son of former president, Armando Emílio Guebuza.
