Africa-PressMozambique. A total of 19 people previously held captive on terrorist bases in Mbau administrative post, Mocímboa da Praia district, northern Cabo Delgado province, were rescued by the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) last weekend, Carta de Moçambique reports.

According to sources, the people were found in Nanjaba village, 16 km from the district capital town, after fleeing one of the most significant terrorist bases, which had been destroyed by the FDS. The victims were found in two groups, the first (of seven people) on Saturday and the second (of 12 people) on Sunday.

Sources report the survivors as saying that the terrorists were in disarray after joint Rwandan and Mozambican forces destroyed their hideouts, adding that the troops had intensified their air raids in recent days, to the insurgents’ bewilderment.

According to Carta, the 19 people are now in Pemba, after having been evacuated from Nanjaba to the district headquarters and from there to the provincial capital.
