Since January 24, 2024, newly displaced families have been arriving in Ibo District, driven by the recurring attacks perpetrated by Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs) in Macomia district specifically in the Chai and Mucojo Posts as well as Quissanga district in Isomero and Ulumbo villages.
As of February 22, 2024, official records indicated that 370 households (HH) composed of 1,290 individuals displaced from the four mentioned areas have been registered in Matemo Island, Ibo sede, Quirambo and Quirimba Island as new arrivals. From these, 154 HH (426 individuals) are in Quirimba island, 165 HH (655 individuals) in Quirambo, 35 HH (162 individuals) are in Matemo island and 16 HH (47 individuals) are in Ibo sede.

The District Planning and Infrastructure Service (SDPI) in Ibo, IOM, the District Administrator and Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) have reported the humanitarian needs that include Non-Food Items (NFI), food assistance, psychosocial support, shelter, dignity and hygiene kits with emphasis on sanitation. Immediate action is required to address these critical needs and provide essential support to the affected populations.
